Leonard, Hicks, and Belton
September 4, 2007- October 6, 2007
Reception: September 6, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
511 W 25th St
Stephen Hicks
In this new series of oil paintings, Hicks moves from New York street corners to underpasses, facades, and rooftops in a wide angled search for light and form. His background as a practicing architect is apparent in his rigorous attention to positions of observation, methods of measurement, and formats of documentation.
David Leonard
Leonard takes the confusion and abstraction of the city and creates a recognizable and comprehendible scene. By expanding the field of view, he includes details of the city that are often overlooked, from the manhole covers up to the spire of the Empire State Building.
