Hasted Hunt is pleased to announce
Christopher Morris My America, new color photographs. The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 7 and runs through October 7, 2006 with an artists reception on Thursday, September 14 from 6 to 8 PM. This is Mr. Morris first major solo exhibition.
This installation opens concurrently with the publication and release of the artists first monograph
Christopher Morris, My America (Steidl 2006).
The images from My America transcend their origins as documentary photographs and offer a shrewd and slightly skewed post-modern consideration of contemporary behavior in the US political milieu.
Christopher Morris joined the White House press corps after more than 20 years as a very highly regarded conflict photographer. My America is his take on the America of George Bushs presidency. Rallies and secret service personnel, cheerleaders and soldiers are part of this unique take on life in these times. Celebration and solemnity, enthusiasm and alienation are all a part of his extended portrait of democracy today.
"Hopefully you will see what I saw and feel what I felt - a nation that has wrapped itself so tightly in the red, white and blue that it has gone blindt writes Morris.
Morris has been the recipient of a number of awards ranging from the Robert Capa Gold Medal, World Press Photo several times, and the International Center of Photographys Infinity Award.
Morris is a founding member of the photo agency VII, which celebrates its fifth anniversary on September 10, 2006.
