As all of you know, Art & Idea was founded more than ten years ago as a not-for-profit institution, then last year the gallery was opened in New York. While the New York space continues its curatorial program anticipating the newest tendencies in the arts, and exploring the rich diversity of artists and media that continually shape art and ideas, it is doing so as a commercial venture promoting artists by establishing a market for their work in contemporary collections and museums. To keep this clearly separate, the gallery in New York will no longer use the name Art & Idea, but rather will be called Haydee Rovirosa Gallery.
ART&IDEA is an institution devoted to promoting and facilitating a cultural dialogue by organizing contemporary arts programs of international scope. Robert Punkenhofer founded ART&IDEA in 1995, and Haydeé Rovirosa joined him in 1997, since then they have been working as a team with the original exhibition space located in Mexico City and a nomadic project space that has operated in New York, Madrid, Berlin and is now being established in Vienna. ART&IDEA has clearly positioned itself as one of the most dynamic contemporary art institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.
ART&IDEA has presented exhibitions featuring the work of well known artists such as Vito Acconci, Uli Aigner, Knut Asdam, Maurizio Cattelan, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Minerva Cuevas, Cheryl Donegan, Rainer Ganahl, Lucy Gunning, Daniel Guzman, Fariba Hajamadi, Emiko Kasahara, Gabriel Kuri, Peter Land, Marko Lehanka, Teresa Margolles, Jenny Marketou, Paul McCarthy, Lucy Orta, Damian Ortega, Luis Felipe Ortega, Erwin Redl, Carolee Schneemann, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Maria Serebriakova, Santiago Sierra, Javier Tellez, Joep Van Leishout and Bill Viola. |
