The Heidi Cho Gallery is pleased to present, the lady doth protest too much. The exhibition is from June 1st through July 15, 2006 Seven artists, seven voices each which a distinct vision all sharing a penchant for drawing and narrative. Angela Basile starts her work by building up her canvas physically, sanding her surface, excavating lines and layering. Each painting involves the process of creating and destroying at once. Her paintings are interlocking blocks, bolted together, to form a new psychological whole. Beck Berrett's work is informed by different levels of memory. She is fascinated by dreams and the unconscious also the transition period from sleep to waking. Claire Cusack, a native Texan, is a denison of garage sales and junk shops. She cradles old artifacts, feeling for its potential. Cusack uses the cross as an archetypal symbol. It can represent a meeting or a passing. Born in Taiwan, Fay Ku emigrated to the USA when she was three. Ku is the product of American suburbs and a Chinese upbringing. Her work is narrative and figurative and deals with issues of socialization. The artist uses images of drawing from memory, imagination and stories remembered. Dana Jerabek received her MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. Her work is a collage of drawing and sculpture. She refers to her process as making arrangements. Site specific installations are created, integrating an intuitive approach to making art. The application of paint is primary in the work of Kathy Feighery, also the rich surface which is worked and reworked. Her newest works are the Dress paintings based on christening dresses. The dresses are juxtaposed against factory-like settings. Jee Won Yang, born in Korea, educated in the USA, also received her MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn New York. Her work matches the rich imagery of remembered landscape with the contemporary slickness of today.
