Hudson Franklin is pleased to present "Alone With Everybody," an exhibition
of photography featuring the work of Yolanda del Amo, Dov Israeli and Audrey
Mandelbaum.
"Alone With Everybody" takes up a classic theme of photography that of the
isolated figure, either alone or in company. Each artist approaches the
theme with a distinct style and in particular locations.
Yolanda del Amo meticulously stages situations to create her images. They
are usually interior scenes, and the palpable tensions in her photographs
are often between two people: husband and wife, father and daughter, or
friends. Architecture and furnishings define physical and spatial
boundaries for the psychological distances between her characters. She
received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2004. Her work is
currently in the "Artist in the Marketplace" exhibition at the Bronx Museum
through July 2.
Dov Israeli takes intimate, direct photographs of the members of his family.
With an unsentimental eye, he captures them in moments of reverie, sometimes
alone or during family gatherings. He received a general studies
certificate from the International Center of Photography in 2004 and is
currently an artist-in-residence at Makor in New York.
Audrey Mandelbaum discovers her subjects on the streets of Los Angeles. She
highlights in sharp focus individual figures or small groups within the
images and digitally creates areas of soft focus around them. In her words,
"I like to pose visual connections that did not occur in real time and
space, or to collapse space to exaggerate connections." She received an MFA
from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. A solo exhibition
of her work will be on view this summer in Los Angeles at the Center for the
Arts, Eagle Rock.
