I have got to stop smiling. It gives the wrong impression.
October 26, 2006- December 16, 2006
Reception: October 26, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
508 W 26th St
Hudson Franklin is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by
Andreas Fischer, on view from October 26 to December 16, 2006.
Fischer's representational paintings set a tone of reverie and a vision of
longing, melancholy, humor and dislocation. Several of the dreamlike works
depict youthful figures in tableaux featuring Romantic-sublime landscapes.
In "Hitchhikers", a couple snuggles in a sleeping bag beneath the hulking
remnants of a roller coaster in the middle of a mythic American landscape.
In "Excursion", a group of men and women lie seemingly unconscious in the
midst of what appears to be a hike. Fischer's handling of paint heightens
the tension between natural representation and psychological uncertainty.
Andreas Fischer received an M.F.A. in 1999 and an M.A. for Art History in
2003 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. This is his first solo
exhibition with
Hudson Franklin.
