Brian Clifton-
Nolan Simon, two artists with polar studio practices, have come together as a collaborative force for this exhibition. Clifton approaches the architecture of the gallery itself by engaging the “ideal” space of exhibition and transforming the gallery's century-old wood floors to a crisp expanse of freshly poured concrete. On top of this, discarded objects have been arranged by Simon in an effort to re-embody a presence of Clifton who he claims is an artist who evades being present in his artwork. The two artists have collaborated on a joint "press release" that is presented as an integral element of the exhibition and a bi-product of their unexpected collaboration.
Brian Clifton was born in Waterford, MI and received a BFA in 2004 from The College for Creative Studies, Detroit MI. He is 2007 recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant.
Nolan Simon was born and educated in Detroit, MI. His work was recently exhibited at the Sculpture Center, Long Island City, NY as part of "In Practice: Special Project Series". Both artists live and work in Brooklyn, NY.
