May 8, 2008- June 7, 2008
Reception: May 8, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
531 W 25th St
Kips Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by
Haessle.
Location: 531 West 25th street. Ground Floor, Between 10th and 11th Avenue
In this exhibition,
Haessle is showing paintings from different periods of his body of works. All paintings are oil on canvas.
Titled “In flow” a large horizontal painting (72 x 92 inches) dated 1988 is part of a extended series of works done at the time(picture). Characterized by an almost visceral “writing” of colors executed mostly by application of the oil tube of color (pre-mixed by the artist) to the surface to obtain a beautiful lush impasto. Viewed at a distance the energetic swirling forms seam to gently pulsate, while the rather dark coloration of the canvas surprisingly feels like emanating a faint glow of light.
A couple of medium sized works from different dates (2003 – 2005) are pursuing the same method of handing color and space.
On another wall, an assemblage of twelve 20 x 16 inches canvas are all from 2008. While some of these small paintings are more concerned by a simple, almost monochromatic effect, viewed as a whole, they continue to reflect
Haessle’s signature style.
Haessle lives and works in New York City. He has widely exhibited in the US and abroad. This fall he will show his work in France and Seoul, South Korea.
