Kips Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by
Li Fang.
Opening Reception: Thursday, June 19, 2008 From 6 to 8 Pm
Li Fang composes anonymous and rhythmic silhouettes. Her artistic universe is rooted in an urban worldwide reality, in which she introduces lightness partly thanks to her unexpected treatment of oil painting layed on by wide touches that she sometimes stretches out up to transparency.
« I am fascinated by the gregarious and solitary walk of passersby. I watch them dashing blindly before me. I do not exist for them. They rush into this empty labyrinth which is yet filled with things and with me. I don’t have the time to see their face that already I am overtaken by others. Who are those men? Who are those women? I portray those moving and faceless bodies as a reflection of their urban world. »
It is by looking in a distant way at her figures that
Li Fang curiously makes them very close to us. Almost faceless entities, with anamorphoses feature through a hyper pixelisation, they are crossing our existences, ignoring our demands, and they don’t seem to see us.
It is like we were condemned to independently stay on both sides of the mirror, distant strangers yet so close. Parallel worlds which are tense by the desire of impossible reunions!
