Reception: May 12, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Klemens Gasser & Tanja Grunert Gallery is proud to announce the opening of an exhibition with new work by
Chloe Piene.
New drawings will be presented alongside five sculptures, for which Piene has combined materials such as wood, plastilina, plastic casts and beeswax. Each is singular and monumental in its own right. To describe them Piene has cited severed mastheads, Memnon, Ozymandais, and things to be installed facing out from the cardinal points of castle ramparts and widow's walks.
Chloe Piene was born in 1972. She has championed drawing as a singular and major medium. Drawings that have been called brutal and delicate, figurative, forensic, erotic and fantastic.
Chloe Piene has shown nationally and internationally at institutions such as the Kunsthalle Bern, Bern, Switzerland, the Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam, Netherlands and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
We are happy to announce a new publication of Piene’s drawings coinciding with her 2007 solo exhibition at the Carré d'Art - Musée d'Art Contemporain de Nîmes. It includes an essay by Barry Schwabsky and an extended interview of the artist by the artist herself. The hardcover book is available through the gallery and will begin distribution in the Fall of 2008 with DAP.
