sound performance
Richard Garet - Light Movements in D -- This piece will consist of creating an object-virtual relationship unfolding in real time. The process will be initiated by hanging from the ceiling a double-sided screen, which will be situated near the artist and in between three large video projections. On one side of this screen a 8mm projector (without film) will send out white light with a rectangular shape of approximately 6 x12 inches onto the screen. A digital-video camera will be placed on the other side of the screen and will capture the light projected from the 8mm projector on the screen. Additionally, the camera will also send a live feed into the artist’s laptop. The artist will be processing in real time the glare and the light produced by the projector, and then re-project it simultaneously onto the three large-scale screens situated within the gallery space. This work will explore the phenomena of light, the objectification of light, and light as a source material filtered and processed until eventually it transcends its own form and purpose. This performance will be accompanied aurally by
Richard Garet's prepared sound arrangements, randomized sound settings, and live sound processing.
Biography
Richard Garet is a sound artist, a video artist, and a painter. He’s interested in nature’s processes, the observation of the relationships between nature and human beings, and the phenomena found and produced in aural and visual time-based media. Garet explores the communicational, the affective, the sensory, and the perceptive characteristics of the various sources he utilizes. Additionally, he focuses on the investigation of relational structures, process, form, abstraction, and subjectivity. Even though Garet’s work suits the standard gallery environment, many of his other activities as an artist explore the various practices of experimental sound and video performance. All of these modes are additional examinations of the ways in which Garet’s work exposes the visitors to visual and physical acoustic sensory perception.
His work has been shown at venues such as Monkey Town, El Museo del Barrio, Issue Project Room all in New York, Harcore art / contemporary art space, Miami
o.blaat (Keiko Uenishi) - falten, die ich hörte falten, die ich hörte (creases, I heard) - inspired by small 'creatures' of Ralf Schreiber, Köln, Germany is a new performance/installation by o.blaat. 'Falten' focuses on relationship of sounds and forms. It is a follow-up piece after 'moiré' which also examined the region, however, in the 'falten', it no longer involves my direct intervention during the performance. My partial goal of this piece is to create an opportunity to observe such relationship undisturbed.
