Wake Up Dreary Dreamers
February 29, 2008 - March 29, 2008
Reception: February 29, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
530 W 25th St
Project Room: LAUREN CLAY
Lauren Clay’s Wake Up Dreary Dreamers is an installation comprised of a paper sculpture, wall painting, and two gouache drawings. Like Amy Vogel,
Lauren Clay creates representations of places of escape and consolation. However, rather than seek out real places of solitude, Clay creates fictional manifestations of Modernist Utopias. Drawing on themes of over-abundance in a state of neglect and discovered but undisturbed fecundity, the installation evokes separate, distinct but similar worlds where barriers are confused and dissolved between the external and internal, physical and symbolic, carbon based and spiritual.
