Order on Motion examines the action or process of movement as well as elements combining to form sequences of space and time. The fluid nature of the various materials envelopes the viewer and challenges their optical interactions. As Robert Irwin’s book title suggests, “Seeing Is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees”. In Grey Fog, LINDA FLEMING uses cut industrial wool felt to create a surface where various realities coexist. Her structures are diagrams of information where thoughts become tangible, history leaves a trace, and information emanates form.
WESS DAHLBERG’s philosophical approach to painting concentrates on the viewer’s mental consciousness while interacting with a work of art. Using tiers of acrylic on wood panel, Dahlberg layers and manipulates the paint creating nervous intersecting lines that give rise to three-dimensional forms. Dahlberg will have his first solo exhibition with
Lemmons Contemporary in January 2007.
GREGG RENFROW uses a minimal wash of color to produce luminous transparent paintings. Influenced by a play of light and space, Renfrow uses ambient light, graphite, polymer, and pigment on cast acrylic to create an ambience which envelopes the viewer. Hung at a slight angle, Renfrow invites ambient light to flow through the panel quickening the colored paint on the surface.
