Lemmons Contemporary is pleased to present Synthesis, an exhibition of installations and works on paper by two of the gallery’s artists.
Synthesis focuses on ways in which artists draw parallels between the behavior of materials and natural environments. For this exhibition, the word “synthesis” represents the combination of ideas to form a theory or system
Viewed through a periscope, CHRISTINE HOWARD’s new site-specific installation, Control Space, examines the relationship between synthetic and natural environments. Constructed from poly-styrene, acetate, and acrylic, Howard creates a suspended sea of architectural forms that draw from oceanic creatures and urban construction.
A recent graduate from Pratt Institute, this will be the first showing of Howard’s installations with
Lemmons Contemporary.
KEIKO KAMATA’s prints are artistic portrayals of environments and varying climates. Printed from carved birch plywood, Kamata’s Lyon series features a panoramic view of Lyon, France. Installed in ascending order, the prints show the natural fading of ink during the repetitive printing process. This “opening” becomes the focal point of the print.
Kamata’s prints are unique objects and not editions or copies and she considers all materials used in the printing process to be as much a part of the art as the actual print. A graduate from the University of Hawaii’s MFA program, this will be Kamata’s second group exhibition with
Lemmons Contemporary.
