The most established among the three, Paolo Conti (b.1942) takes industrial scrap and transforms it into stencils which he combines and applies to his oil painting. Conti studied mathematics and physics, and following their disciplines, he gives new meaning to the concept of recycling. The result is a complicated, but controlled fusion of matter and art.
Nicola Evangelisti (b. 1972) takes his inspiration from scientific theories and hypothesis for his sculptures with Plexiglas, lightbox and neon in which he attempts to visualize the energy of infinite space by amplifying light in wavy patterns reminiscent of lightning or neurons. Evangelisti believes art and science are two sides of the same coin, and he uses the process of questioning and investigating to help him cope with real-world social and personal issues.
The small mixed-media assemblages by Paola Pansini (b.1979) evoke what we call 'psychological sandboxes.' Disguised as lyrical and upbeat miniatures of toy figurines, food containers and dried plants, her work probes the dark side of contemporary domestic life i.e. eating disorders and overwhelming commercialism.
