Marvelli Gallery is pleased to present The Cement Garden, a group show of new figurative paintings by
Skyler Brickley,
Dominic Mañgila,
Emily Mae Smith and
Margaux Williamson. The exhibition, on display from February 23 through March 24, includes nine new paintings in the divergent styles of the four artists.
Skyler Brickley, a New York based artist and recent graduate of the Yale MFA program, has included two new large paintings, Accident and Venus and Adonis. The artist was included in the group show Paradise Lost at
Marvelli Gallery in 2004.
Dominic Mañgila, who was born in the Philippines, is exhibiting two paintings titled The Eagle Lands and Chopper inspired by the helicopter flight dictator Ferdinand Marcos used to flee the country. The artist is currently in the MFA program at Columbia University. This is his first exhibition in New York.
Emily Mae Smith is exhibiting two paintings titled Etc. and Peasant. Emily graduated from Columbia’s MFA program in 2006 and she lives and works in New York. Emily’s single painting exhibition The Love Below was on view in
Marvelli Gallery’s project room in June 2005.
Margaux Williamson lives and works in Toronto and studied art at Queens University in Ontario. Three of her new paintings are presented in the show, including the interior scene Portrait of the Woman Next Door. This is her first exhibition in New York.
