Baby Carriages
December 13, 2007- February 28, 2008
Reception: December 13, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
205 W 20th St
The exhibition, titled BABY CARRIAGES, will consist of two large and
five small to medium sized paintings on linen.
Fulvia Zambon creates scenarios of a strange childhood that occurs in an
obscure setting and time. Using objects and memories associated with
children and childhood the artist shares a fantastical story with the viewer.
In "Sidecar to Superga" the artist uses the carriage as a vehicle for travel
and "Fire on the Riverbank" (not pictured) you find the baby carriage being
used as a boat, both for means of transportation. In "Jolie going to Work"
the carriage is used as a tool for work. These compositions combine still life
paintings, landscapes and photographs. Fulvia's training as a portrait artist
enables her to paint accurate faces and, at the same time, create her
fantastical work. Influenced by many of the Old Masters during her training
as a classical painter and sculptor, Fulvia has also been inspired by contemporary
sources in developing her unique and recognizable way of painting.
Fulvia attended the Accademia Albertina in Turin and the Accademia di Belle
Arti di Brera in Milan where she studied drawing the nude as well as sculpture
with Lydia Silvestri. She also studied portrait painting for three years with Ronald
Sherr at the Art Students League in New York. In addition, she is a recipient of
The Jean Gates Grant 2007. Fulvia was also one of 18 artists invited to participate
in a solo show at Turin Art Gallery (TAG) in conjunction with the opening of the 2006
Winter Olympic Games. Seven oil paintings, including two large works, will be on exhibit
until February 2, 2008.
