We are pleased to announce that our August / September exhibition "CALIFORNIA DREAMS" will feature unique photographs utilizing macro photography techniques from Italian artist
Emanuela Gardner.
The following sentiment from the artist sums up her methodology perfectly: "I photograph cities as I would a human face, looking at details - looking at shadows, always going for sensation. This is the same approach I have taken with California Dreams."
Emanuela gained notoriety from her "ROMA" exhibition which consisted of striking and timeless black and white photographs of Rome. Gardner's ability to capture details and shadows as though she were photographing the human face provokes sensations of solitude and infinity.
The exhibition titled CALIFORNIA DREAMS is a series of large and bold original photographs taken from various landscapes throughout California. These original photographs are developed individually by the artist in order to juxtapose rich combinations of reds and greens while emphasizing the form's detail.
Gardner's bold unique abstract photographs of magnified leafs, stalks, petals and corollas will not leave you wondering which flora genre the plant belongs to but more importantly you will notice the high quality print in which she gives credit back to the original subject 's physical consistence. This new series of works are composed of a variety of colors that reach a quasi-psychedelic intensity. Combinations of bold complementary color assemblage will draw your attention to the central form while the contrast of the large background reminds you that this abstraction is of color only. Gardner's work reinterprets a study of the world in which color and proportion cross boundaries of time and relativity.
About her work, Rosanna Ruscio writes: "The fantastic interpretation through which the flowers and the complex morphology of stems are taken by the lens frightens us to the point of appearing, in its honesty, almost impudent. On the other hand, the subject easily signifies the fragility and brevity of beauty and appearance; yet, the botanic symbolism does not seem to be among the main concern of the artist. The only moralizing intention may be that of giving back the right value to the communicative immediacy and to the anamnesis of memory as a visual fact and therefore capable to awaken hidden sensibilities and move our heart."
