Monkdogz Urban Art gallery was approached with the idea of developing a Latin/Hispanic show, given that Monkdogz is known and respected as an innovative and imagination driven International arts platform and that it is inclusive of both established as well as very powerful emerging artists.
Although the gallery had never before considered looking at one particular geographic segment of the arts world, while discussing the matter, we came to a number of relevant conclusions. First and foremost that the Spanish culture and their impact on art past and present is profound and necessary. Plus the important impact of these influences can, and will continue to be felt around the world.
It also seemed to us that a culture who in recent times has found renewed visibility in both the music and entertainment industries within the United States should also receive the entitled recognition it deserves for their contributions within the visual arts world. Of course we realize we are only providing a taste of the countries influenced by Spanish arts culture.
The individual artists involved in this exciting exhibition will allow those of us within the New York art world, a more extensive understanding of this valuable and exciting contribution to art, as well as renewed respect for the individual artists involved through their commitment, desire, and energy to develop engaging works.
On October 18th El Perro Monje will open in New York City featuring nine exciting artists influenced by Spanish blood and environment. From the initial previews of these individual artists and their work, the possibilities are truly endless.
Participating artists include
Batis Campillo (Spain),
Jean-Marc Calvet (Nicaragua),
