Suite Panamericana
September 6, 2007- October 6, 2007
Reception: September 6, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
535 W 25th St
On view in the North Gallery is Suite Panamericana by Mexican-born, New York-based conceptual artist
Pablo Helguera. This exhibition is part of Helguera's The School of Panamerican Unrest, a public art project connecting different regions of the Americas through discussions, performances, and screenings.
This latest component consists of a new series of collages sourced through images and literary references compiled from textbooks, and are based on Helguera's recent travels driving through the Americas from Anchorage, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina. Helguera's various scenarios constitute life in the Americas today, building on previous generations of intellectuals intent on creating a unified cultural region, while revealing the all-too-familiar experiences of displacement and the socio-political impact of migration at a time of increased technological innovation and post-globalization.
Showcased in different organizations across the Americas, the final destination for The School of Panamerican Unrest will take place at El Museo del Barrio, New York in 2008. More information is available at
www.panamericanismo.org.
A public performance and reception to coincide with
Pablo Helguera's exhibition will take place on Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Please contact the gallery at 212-268-4444 or info@motihasson.com for more details.
