NY Studio Gallery is pleased to invite you to
Clea Felien’s artist reception for her newest paintings. Expressing human emotion through deconstructing traditional portraiture. Ms. Felien’s bold and expressive paint application enhances the representation of the charged images she portrays: people exploding with emotions such as sorrow, madness, anger, frustration, confusion or happiness.
Ms. Felien paints with her non-dominant left hand. Although trained as a realistic painter, she began drawing and painting with her left hand after an accident with her right arm. The awkwardness of using her non-dominant hand facilitates the creation of a portrait that is as complex as the human psyche.
Clea Felien holds an MFA from Vermont College (Feb 2007) and a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. She was also classically trained in 19th Century French Academic Portraiture at the Minneapolis Atelier. In 2000 she founded The Studio School by hosting painting classes in her Minneapolis studio. She has exhibited widely in Minnesota, at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Weissman Museum, as well as No Name Gallery, Speedboat, SooVAC, Image Dump, Franklin Artworks, Concordia State College, Radiator, Gallery 360, DAG Gallery and others, and at A.I.R. Gallery in New York.
