The
Nancy Margolis Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition, "
Jack Earl: Dreams and Stories," from January 4 to January 27, 2007.
The exhibition includes both the large and small works that are made from 1997 to 2004. Featuring life size busts and small-scaled sculptures of cartoon characters, historical figures, and imaginary people, these sculptures reflect the artist's life-long dreams and fictional stories inspired by the life of Bill, the artist's fictional soul mate and tour de force. Eschewing the use of glaze most of the time the sculptures are kiln-fired then painted with acrylics.
Coming on the scene in 1968 during a period of change and innovation in American ceramics and in the art world, Earl, a narrative realist sculptor, has retained a clear and independent voice throughout his career spanning more than 36 years. His unique and original voice is ever present in this body of work.
