Paul Sharpe Projects: 547 W 27th St
Paul Sharpe Projects at 547 West 27th Street, Fifth Floor,
announces the opening of "
Michelle Mackey: Berlin Stories". The exhibit
features new works on paper based on her recent stay in Berlin, Germany.
The exhibition will be on view from July 17th through August 11th, 2007. A
reception will be held on Thursday, July 19th, from 6 ˆ 8 PM.
Mackey, who traveled to Berlin in May and June of this year, had her first
European solo show in Berlin‚s Galerie Kollaborativ. In conjunction with
the trip, the artist stayed in Berlin for five weeks absorbing the cultural
life of the formerly divided German city. As in her past art work, which is
based largely on her Williamsburg, Brooklyn neighborhood, Mackey sought to
understand the currents of change and vibrancy of Berlin through her own
lens. The exhibit‚s title references Christopher Isherwood‚s book and it is
an opportunity for Mackey to formulate visual ideas of her impressions of
the city which will lead to a gallery exhibition at Paul Sharpe Contemporary
Art in the future.
