Dr. Adela A. Allen, an educator, said, "We should acknowledge differences, we should greet differences, until difference makes no difference anymore." By presenting five artists using different medias,
PaulaBarr chelsea celebrates the spirit of diversity.
Leslie Granda-Hill has a degree in Fashion Design from The Fashion Institute of Technology. Her work has appeared in movies such as “The Devils Wears Prada” and TV’s “Law and Order SVU.” She excels in digital capture and manipulation and is best known for her illustrations that are meant to make the viewer look twice – sometimes the image is not what it first appears to be. She is the recipient of many international and regional recognitions. She has exhibited and won top honors in many juried art shows. Granda-Hill teaches and has presented her work to area photography groups as well as the Newark Artists Collective at the Newark Museum.
Marcia Odle-McNair graduated from the prestigious Hunter College Program and was part of Hunter’s first MFA graduating class. She has taught studio art at Hunter College and St. Peter’s College in New Jersey. With the combination of studio experiences and exposure to major museums and galleries, she developed a style of art that reflects her interest in a non-representational format. She explores ideas in abstraction by developing a body of work on paper and canvas that displays the juxtaposition of form, color and transparencies in a unique presentation that stimulates the mind and senses. She has exhibited across the country, notably at the Cinque Gallery, Wilmer Jennings Gallery, the Corridor Gallery and the Studio Museum.
Ivan Sherman is a former Executive Art Director with Jordan McGrath Case and Partners. As an artist, he sought to find newer creative ways and started cutting corrugated cartons, coming up with a technique of layering concentric triangles and squares. The geometric order imposed by the medium seems to give the work a sense of peacefulness and tranquility, while unexpected flourishes and color makes the work fun to look at. Sherman has exhibited with the NYC Society of Illustrators, the Organization of Independent Artists, the NYC Society of Illustrators, the West Side Artists Coalition, the Cork Gallery and Lincoln Center.
Jemina Vita is a graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Art Student’s League. Her work investigates how time is stored, repeated and recycled through her experiments with photos, film, music and the plasticity of materials in an attempt to step away from tight restrictions of prevailing orders by constantly changing the forms of captured pasts. Vita had solo exhibitions in the Gershwin Hotel Gallery, Bergdorf Goodman and the Diner Gallery, and group shows at Artists Space, White Box, the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts (SICA), Sikkema Jenkins & Co and the Chamber’s Fine Art Gallery, among others.
Joseph Woolridge studied in the Cooper Union School of Art and Yale University Sumer School of Art. He makes translucent paintings using thin layers of opaque oil paint, raw pigment and beeswax on canvas. His work explores archetypes of iconic symbols, in search of a visual experience that speaks to our collective deep consciousness. Woolridge is the recipient of six awards and had solo exhibitions at the Red Mill Gallery Vermont Studio Center in Vermont, CAW Hilles Gallery in Connecticut and the Houghton Gallery Cooper Union, New York.
PaulaBarr chelsea is a core program of Site Images, Inc, a not-for-profit arts organization. The exhibitions in the gallery are sponsored in part by private donations and corporate support. All programs are open to the public.
