Joseph Conrad said, “Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art as of life.”
Optical Merge carries us through the breathtaking pictures of three photographers, the black and white drawings of a young artist daring us to use our imagination and the stainless steel sculptures of an artist playing with the infinite possibilities of variations in shapes. With this show,
PaulaBarr chelsea underlines the power of Conrad’s words, “imagination is the master of art.”
Jack Dzamba brings an international sophistication to photography and design, having traveled and taken pictures in Europe, Russia, China, Canada, South America, and the United States. His work has won numerous awards in juried and international competitions, including in the 2007 Prix de la Photographie Paris, competition. Jack's image Remembrance, taken at the Louvre in Paris, was chosen in a National Juried Competition in 2003, judged by Marian Parmenter, Executive Director and Founder of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery.
Jane Fulton Alt attended the University of Michigan (BA, 1973) and the University of Chicago (MA, 1975). She has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. Simeon Gilmer is classically trained in the technique of Painting, having honed his trade at Pratt and PNCA. Simeon cut his teeth traditionally with drawing, sculpture, comic book artistry and painting, until he began his passionate journey into Photography. It was here in the urban night landscapes of New York where he would sharpen his experimentation of long exposure, composition, and the city after dark. Gilmer’s inspiration is born from the streetscapes of the city he loves, his works highlighting the individuality of the urban nightscape and illuminating the instinctive power of place.

Since 1991, he develops his art through various commissioned works for individual collectors and businesses His is a member of the Brooklyn Arts Council and the recipient of the Bellmore-Merrick District Art Award. His work has been exhibited in New York galleries.
Nathan Poglein holds a BFA from Penn State. After graduation, he spent two years away from school and worked doing graphic design work and experimenting with his art such as turning ice. He entered grad school at Miami University of Ohio and studied metals. He was an assistant on an 85 foot public art project in Cincinnati. Poglein has exhibited his work at different shows throughout the country. He has been accepted into the 15th International Silver Triennial, which is currently touring Germany and other parts of Europe. His work is part of collections in three Lark Book publications.
