Marcella Anna Stasa 2006
September 6, 2006- September 30, 2006
210 11th Ave
Gallery I
Marcella Stasa’s work is made up primarily of objects found in her environs including her garden. She uses decayed and rusted materials in combination with things found in nature, which include dead animals and their bones. While some of these elements may seem morbid, she finds the beauty in death and decay. There is an elegiac sense in her combination of materials.
In the past she has developed works that could be regarded as site-specific in that they are made in response to a particular place using materials from that environment. She has spent up to two months at a time away from home creating pieces about places as diverse as the Nevada desert, Tucson Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida finding intriguing items in those places to work together into sculptures.
For this exhibit she has explored her own back yard, using natural and discarded materials found in her local surroundings of Massachusetts. There are snake bones, alien looking seedpods and metal discards among the items she uses, all contributing to make an ethereal installation of sculpture and assemblage.
