THE PROJECT ROOM at the PHOENIX GALLERY
The
Phoenix Gallery is proud to present a collaborative project by members of SALUTE to Women in the Arts, who in the great tradition of women who sew, have created a beautiful art quilt. In reaction to the events that have taken place in the world since 9/11, members of SALUTE to Women in the Arts created quilt squares in a variety of mediums which were pieced together by SALUTE member and fiber artist,
Madeline Giotto. Artists sewed, quilted, painted, and printed squares in shades of green and cream and placed on a plum colored cloth background. SALUTE artists were encouraged to interpret the theme, “Where have all the flowers gone?” Some addressed the topic of violence directly while others thought of the piece as a healing object.
