R. Duane Reed Gallery in conjunction with AIDA, The Association of Israel’s Decorative Arts, is please to announce the first show in New York for
Michal Zehavi.
Sand Castle is a visual metaphor for the act of building a seemingly simple structure and experiencing its subsequent destruction. Creating tensions that cause disintegration, Zehavi plays an endless game of examining formal relationships and challenging the material in an attempt to capture the moment before entropy prevails. Her self-described “organic creatures” seem to emerge from their abstract jar-like forms before devolving back into the sand.
Michal Zehavi is a 1992 graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem, Israel. Her work was introduced to the United States through the efforts of AIDA, The Association of Israel’s Decorative Arts, when she was selected through a rigorous jury process to show with AIDA at the SOFA Chicago fair in 2003. This ultimately led to the representation of the artist by
R. Duane Reed Gallery. Ms. Zehavi currently lives and works in Jerusalem.
