Tim E. Dubitsky posits a religious iconography of a One World Government. In 1959, the same year that John D. Rockefeller gave a check for $8.5 million to the United Nations to purchase the land for its New York City headquarters, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund published “The Mid-Century Challenge to U.S. Foreign Policy” in which it proclaimed: “We cannot escape, and indeed should welcome, the task which history has imposed on us. This is the task of helping to shape a new world order in all its dimensions – spiritual, economic, political, social.” Numen for a One World Religion (1/XXX) presents the potential of a palatable hybrid figurehead for a global idolatry in such a world. Accompanied by a spiritual mash-up hymn, recorded in collaboration with international sitar master Roger Lipson and tabla player Ehren Hanson, Numen epitomizes authority over the four dimensions of this new world. Dubitsky graduated from NYU in 2000. This is his first exhibition at RARE.
