Ricco/Maresca is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by the self-taught painter ROBERT SHOLTIES, a postal worker from Pennsylvania. Sholties paints twisted images of tragedy and futility using magazine and newspaper photographs as his source material. Familiar, banal icons of media culture come together to witnes floods, tornados, and a range of human vice in these complex paintings of Biblical scope.
Robert Sholties' awareness of social issues and environmental disasters, tinges with vestiges of his Catholic upbringing, present a homegrown look at American culture, rendered with an obsessive attention to detail and a unique sense of composition.
