March 9, 2006- April 22, 2006
Reception: March 11, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
524 W 26th St
Wesselmann created this group of paintings in 2003 and 2004 with the understanding that they would be shown together in this exhibition. They are both his largest single panel works since the 1960s and the last major paintings he completed prior to his death in December 2004.
In this continuation of works from the previously exhibited Sunset Nudes series, Wesselmann seeks new ways of expressing the nude figure, deconstructing the form while increasing its prominence in the piece.
Art Reviews of Tom Wesselmann: Sunset Nudes
New York Times March 31, 2006 | | Grace Glueck | | "...''Sunset Nudes'' at the Robert Miller Gallery is a quite different story, presenting a group of large-scale canvases, cut-out aluminum paintings and small drawings made in the last two years of Mr. Wesselmann's life. The mix of still-life, landscape and odalisque/pinup girl elements that he developed over the years appears here in brighter, more playful and more suavely handled compositions..." |
