606 W 26th StIn the Project Room, Roebling Hall presents Wyatt Nash in his second solo exhibition, Thoughts I Made.
Nash fabricates his sculptures from memories and his ideas about living on the margins of our consumer driven society. His Pop icons have degenerated from their crisp origins, modified into re-use and improvisation. In his vision, these objects have their own life and story to tell; recalled from the junkyards, pawnshops and country lanes in this trickled down corner of society.
His process is likewise direct and improvisational; he sculpts without sketches or models; constantly modifying as he works, reacting to his thoughts and further honing them in a very painterly process of abstracting the original sad-sack objects, finally imbuing them with a sense of a storm rising on the remote dusty American plains.
