harlem-born-brooklyn-based
January 17, 2008- February 22, 2008
Reception: January 31, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
547 W 27th St
S H A G is excited to present the harlem-born-brooklyn-based street artists bobby hill and ernest rosenberg. Both artists have never had a full fledged gallery show before. Neither has a formal education from an arts college or university. Neither has won any prestigious awards nor juried competitions. What they both have in common is a raw, visceral and quite appealing visual vocabulary completely developed and personalized directly from the street. Both artists have surfaced from the underground world of graffitti-based expression and have found their own potent and thought-provoking visual style now translated on canvases, and in mixed media.
S H A G once again continues to bring artists into the gallery setting from the streets of brooklyn and like the september 2007 show "can I get a witness," launches the careers of a couple of real "emerging" artists.
