SOHO2O Chelsea Gallery presents “Embodiments,” an exhibition of Susan
Case’s most recent mixed-media figurative sculptures. In her work, Case
explores the theme of metamorphosis and the figure’s ability to reflect the
world around us.
Working in a variety of media in accordance to the concept of the piece,
Case’s figures are made of common, everyday materials such as: newspaper,
nails, paint and string. These life-size, gendered figures are constructed out of
plaster and wire screen where their form is built up from wads and rolls of
newspaper.
Working with paint and collaged paper, their surfaces are textured and
tactile.
Susan Case lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has exhibited her
work at the Museum of Art (formally the Museum of Fine Arts), The Center
for Contemporary Arts, and El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe. This is her
second solo show at
SOHO20 Chelsea Gallery.
