SOHO20 Chelsea Gallery is pleased to announce Incantations, an
exhibition of
Christie Blizard’s most recent multi-paneled drawing installations.
This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York.
In Incantations, Blizard explores the idea of becoming through transitory
navigations of boundaries between high and low technology, spirituality, and
fragmentation.
Blizard’s Incantations uses wall installations as montages. Different images are
synthesized to create larger and more complex investigations of identity
formation and personal movement. LED dots, cross-stitching, stickers, drawings
of Bob Dylan, acetate tubes and self-portraits are some of the strategies the
artist has used to form the composite.
Christie Blizard lives and works in Lubbock, TX and has been featured in over 30
national and international exhibitions since 2003. She was a finalist for the “New
York, New York” exhibition; included in the “24th Annual National Juried
Exhibition” juried by Dr. Peter Selz and Nancy Buchara at the Berkeley Art
Center, and was featured in New American Paintings, South Edition, Volume 58.
SOHO20 Chelsea is now one of the oldest organizations in the U.S. created to address the
under-representation of work by women in museums and galleries.
