Sara Meltzer Gallery through November 4, 2006.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Goldberg has organized a series of events bringing together artists in a variety of disciplines, each of whom explores themes related to those presented in Room Tone.
This Thursday, October 26, at 7:30pm, composer, musician, and producer
Nathan Michel will premier a site-specific, multi-instrumental sound work which will play off the visual rhythms in Goldberg’s silent video installation.
About
Nathan Michel
Nathan Michel's first two albums -- abc def (2002) and
Dear Bicycle (2003) -- combine instruments with lo-fi electronics, while his most recent record, The Beast (2005), offers colorful, organic instrumental textures, lush harmonies, and skillful song-writing with only a touch of electronics. Jointly released by Skipp Records from France and Sonig Records from Germany, The Beast works on many levels, as its smooth pop surface gives way to richness of detail that invites listening and re-listening. Nathan plays all of the instruments on the record himself: guitars, piano, drums, marimba, vocals, melodica, and many more. Currently a Ph.D. composition fellow at Princeton University, Nathan has also studied at Bowdoin College, Yale University, and in Amsterdam with Louis Andriessen. He has received numerous awards for his work including Morton Gould Young Composer Awards from ASCAP and a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Michel was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1974.
