“Myoho is the mystic law of Buddhism. It is the connection between our inherent existence and the earthy manifestations of this being. The word Myoho has two distinct parts. Myo is the quintessence of life, the invisible spirit that is beyond intellectual comprehension. The Myo finds tangible materialization in the ho, the phenomena that we can see, touch, and smell on Earth.
Mark di Vencenzo has been a practicing Buddhist for the past 25 years. His recent paintings are reflections on the Myoho principle. In the lakes, ponds, and marshes that di Vincenzo paints, the nature that surrounds us takes on a life of its own.
The bodies of water that di Vincenzo paints come from origins across the world, from the lakes near Mt. Fuji to the bays of Montauk. Microcosmic segments of theses waters burst into epic pools in di Vincenzo’s voluminous paintings. These aquatic episodes play out in human scale through a rhythm of lush brushstrokes. From head to toe, the viewer is engulfed in the mystical melody of this elemental energy.” -Kimberly Whinna
