Located on the Lower East Side in New York City, the gallery program aims to show exploratory work by emerging and mid-career artists underpinned by group shows with more established figures. With a strong focus on inter-generational dialogue and the representation of a small number of artists, the gallery schedule will present inter-disciplinary work by international artists in a context that aims to be flexible and spontaneous. The gallery opened initially with three consecutive group exhibitions that introduced the gallery artists within a group show context centered within tight conceptual frameworks. The inaugural exhibition ‘Coup De Grace’ brought together five artists exploring the opposing roles of aggressor and victim. The exhibition presented new work by Mary Kelly, Daniel Joseph Martinez, together with works by General Idea, Touhami Ennadre and introducing a new sculpture by gallery artist Michelle Lopez. ‘Mad Amour’, presented an ambitious mechanical whirling dervish sculpture by Kara Tanaka together with a series of works Marco Rio. The most recent show explored notions of the doppelganger and introduced Josh Tonsfeldt along with Tim Hawkinson, Michelle Lopez and Kara Tanaka. The fall season will begin with a two-person show of Jessica Mein and Carlos Bevilacqua, both artists from Sao Paulo who work with animated video and sculptural form respectively. The programme for 2009 includes a project exhibition with Irish artist John Gerrard, whose work is invested in real-time 3D gaming technologies creating landscapes the artist describes as ‘post-cinematic’.
