Strength In Numbers: Artists Respond to Conflict
Strength In Numbers , June 3 through July 31, is a group exhibition of works by 24 artists. Some images depict society changing through the strength of its citizens. Others show mass conflict of authority against its citizens. The strength in numbers is stated or implied, blatant or subtle, with positive or negative connotations. People are united together by choice or grouped together against their will. Individual’s rights are questioned.
The works span the time period from the 1930’s to the present. They cover events from the Far East to the Middle East and from Africa to the Americas. The artists comment on war, disaster, civil rights, human rights and voting rights among others. They speak for those who can’t speak for themselves. These artists are as committed to their social and political beliefs as they are to their work.

“Painted images cannot stop wars or win the struggle for justice, but they are not irrelevant. They fortify and enrich the spirit of those who are committed to the struggle and help educate those who are unaware.” - Eva Cockcroft
