Stellan Holm Gallery is pleased to present the debut of Katlick School with new works by famed photographer Sante D’Orazio. Exhibition opens Saturday April 14, 2007; opening reception from 6 to 8pm.

The Catholic schoolgirl – the crisp white shirt, the plaid short skirt, innocent face – triggers the imagination. The uniform encompasses the innocence of youth as well as adolescent sexual curiosity. Sante D’Orazio explores this fantasy with an exhibition of 32 new works.

Sante D’Orazio studied painting and fine arts at Brooklyn College before beginning his photography career as assistant to Philip Pearlstein. During those same years, he studied photography with Lou Bernstein, a member of The New York Photo League. D’Orazio began his professional career in 1981 with Italian Vogue and later at Andy Warhol’s Interview and was soon working for the world’s leading fashion magazines. In 1994 he won Grand Prize at the International Festival of Fashion Photography for his photos of Jaye Davidson, Axl Rose and The Rolling Stones. Since then his work has been exhibited around the world, including one-man shows in New York, Los Angeles, Bologna, Berlin, Cologne, Warsaw, Munich, Tokyo, and Vienna. He has published three books: A Private View (1998), Sante D’Orazio Photographs (2000), and Pam Anderson: American Icon (2005). D'Orazio's most recent exhibition at Stellan Holm Gallery was Pam: American Icon, a collection of large format color and black -and-white nude photographs of America's premier sex symbol of the turn of the millenium.
