STELLAN HOLM GALLERY is pleased to present Visitation, an exhibition of new paintings by German artist
Martin Borowski. Exhibition opens on Thursday, September 21, 2006. Opening reception from 6 to 8 pm.
In this group of new paintings,
Martin Borowski has chosen as his motif his visits to museums and art institutions. Visitation conjures in our minds a journey, both physical and emotional, to various temples of art. The word also conjures a spiritual journey that one would undertake to a museum. The paintings are not simply homage to the architectural masterpieces that these institutions are but more an emotional reading of the interior space. One’s relationship to the spaces of these institutions is experienced in Borowski’s large-scale paintings. For example Museum 7 (oil on canvas, 112 1/2 x 76 1/2 inches) does not merely depict the interior of the Guggenheim; the painting is a pictorial manipulation that takes place on the canvas.
Born in Hoyerswerda in 1970 Borowski studied at the Dresden academy of fine art from 1994 thru 2001.
Visitation is his second solo exhibition at
Stellan Holm Gallery.
