April 24, 2008- June 7, 2008
Reception: April 24, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
521 W 21st St
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we announce the gallery's first solo exhibition of new work by
Neal Tait. Entitled The Dressmaker who Lived on the Outskirts, this major presentation will be comprised of exceptional new paintings and works on paper that serve to construct seductive narratives and painterly compositions. Derived from such diverse source materials as magazines, discarded photographs and newspaper stories, the works culminate in a tapestry of fairy tale imagery and playful Surrealist landscape to create disquieting dystopias.
Based in London, Tait’s notable, recent projects include Dark Mutter, MDD (Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens), Deurle, Belgium, 2006 (solo); Hoch Hinaus, Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland, 2005 (group); Direct Painting, Kunsthalle Mannheim, Germany, 2004 (group); Atomkreig, Kunsthaus Dresden, Germany, 2004 (group);
Neal Tait, Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin, 2002 (group); Painting on the Move, Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland, 2001 (group). The comprehensive, full color monograph
Neal Tait, featuring contributions by Jeremy Millar and Michael Bracewell, was published by Other Criteria in 2006.
