1 + 1 = 2
September 7, 2006- October 7, 2006
Reception: September 7, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
555 W 25th St
Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition of the work of
Roger Ackling and
Richard Long. The exhibition, entitled 1 + 1 = 2, opens September 7 and continues through October 7, 2006.
In their respective practices, both
Roger Ackling and
Richard Long are known for using commonly found materials not generally employed in art-making, including driftwood, sunlight (Ackling) and mud (Long). And though they are long time friends, 1 + 1 = 2 marks the first time that these two British artists will show their work together.
The gallery will show new individual works by both artists, as well as several pieces on which they have collaborated. Ackling will contribute his wall-mounted sculptures scored by the sun; Long will install two new I-Ching mud works. Their collaborative project involved each choosing and working on pieces of driftwood which they then exchanged for the other to work on. The results are artworks of their shared responses, determined by chance and mutual regard.
Both
Roger Ackling and
Richard Long’s work appears in public and private collections worldwide. This exhibition is Ackling’s third with the gallery. Please call or email the gallery for further information or visual material.
