In lieu of a press release or invitation, Dave has produced a zine, for which he asked various artists, friends and writers to contribute. Each person was given a specific assignment or task, all of which loosely tie into Dave's painting practice. To receive a copy please contact the gallery.
Contributors: Erick Zuenskes, Jeffrey Lewis, Nellie Bridge, Matt Hoyt, Jennifer Miko, John Mejias, Jonathan Schwartz, Ted McGurn.
Erick Zuenskes, I asked Erick to write about how he is often placing himself in situations where he is spending lots of time in closed quarters with other people, and about the places he goes to try to escape these situations. I asked him to pay special attention to describing physical details of these places.
Jeffrey Lewis, I asked Jeff to make a comic about one of the uncomfortable conversations he has had while touring, in which he and the person he was talking to didn't connect.
Nellie Bridge, I asked Nellie to write six sonnets about the places she has lived and to talk about trash and weather in each one.
Matt Hoyt, I asked Matt for excerpts of writing and drawings done in preparation for his sculptures.
Jennifer Miko, I asked Jenn to take a roll of photos of Video Transfer Center, the business she owns and runs with her husband, Buck Bito.
John Mejias, I asked John to cover "nature."
Jonathan Schwartz, I asked Jonathan to write either about what he did on a specific Monday in early December or his favorite films and the circumstance of the first time he saw them.
Ted McGurn, I asked Ted to write about when he was doing extensive renovation on a house near New Paltz, sleeping outside in a tent.
