Lynn Geesaman 2006
May 18, 2006- June 20, 2006
535 W 22nd St
Yancey Richardson Gallery is pleased to present
Lynn Geesaman. An exhibition of large-scale
color photographs of landscapes taken throughout France, Belgium, England and the United
States. This will be Geesaman’s fifth exhibition with the gallery.
In this selection of recent work, Geesaman continues to explore the intersection of nature and
artifice in the cultivated landscape. Although no figures appear, human intervention is continually
referenced by alleys of trees, whimsically shaped topiaries or the perfectly trimmed hedge.
Combining masses or repeating forms, delicate detail and luminous color, Geesaman creates a
mesmerizing tension between the orderly structure of these idealized settings and the
hallucinatory quality of their light and color.
Geesaman was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in
physics. Her work is represented in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum, The Art Institute
of Chicago, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Bibliotheque Nationale de Paris. There
are two monographs published on the work of
Lynn Geesaman, Poetics of Place, 1998 and
Gardenscapes, 2004.
