Carlos Amorales

Yvon Lambert Gallery

550 W 21st St

Yvon Lambert is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition by Carlos Amorales at the New York gallery. The exhibition, entitled Black Cloud, will feature two new pieces, including an installation of 25,000 black paper moths hand glued individually to walls and ceilings throughout the gallery. In the north gallery, the artist's first black and white film will be on view. In 2008 Yvon Lambert will publish Carlos Amorales! monograph with an essay by Jens Hoffmann and a conversation with Joan Jonas.

With these works, Amorales plunges the viewer into a world of dark fantasy tinged with optimism. The artist expands upon the image of the moth recently employed in Carlos Amorales: Dark Mirror at Daros Latinamerica in Zurich. At Yvon Lambert, Black Cloud is a living, inhabitable film still that the viewer may penetrate. The walls will be covered by thousands of the small, winged creatures that in effect take over the gallery space. The new film illustrates the beginning of the moths' life cycle; the process of installing the moths at Amorales' Mexico City studio is shown.

During the month of November, the artist will be conducting a new performance with Performa 07 in New York City. Spider Galaxy (2007) will be on view from November 3th to 20th at the IBM building atrium at 590 Madison Avenue. The opening reception will be on November 9th from 6 to 8pm, and performances will run from November 9th to 17th. In addition, a major new installation piece, Faces (2007), will be on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver from October 28th, 2007 to February 2008. At The Moore Space, Miami, the artist will have a solo exhibition from December 6th, 2007 to March 8th, 2008.

Carlos Amorales! work has been shown internationally at institutions such as the Tate Modern, London; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Pompidou, Paris; The Power Plant, Toronto; and the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. His work is featured in prominent collections throughout the world, including those of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Daros-Latinamerica, Zurich; The Jumex Collection, Mexico City; and The Margulies Collection, Miami.
