Exploration in the Domain of Idiocy
November 17, 2005- January 14, 2006
530 W 24th St
Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL) is pleased to present the work of Tamy Ben-Tor. The exhibition will run from November 17, 2005 to January 14, 2006.
In the main gallery Tamy Ben-Tor will present three new video portraits titled "Artist in Residence", "The Contractor", and "Alejandra". In the second gallery two other videos will be exhibited: "Women Talk about Adolf Hitler" and "Girls Beware".
Tamy Ben-Tor will perform live "Exotica, The Rat and The Liberal" inside the gallery every Friday and Saturday at 4pm, excluding the Friday and Saturday immediately following Thanksgiving.
Described by Tamy Ben-Tor: "The characters in the performances and the videos are all imitations, but also completely invented. They are all trying to communicate a certain truth, but are isolated in a domain of idiocy. The psychological state of people who try to grasp on to a truth, some sort of identity or ideology, which may be expressed simply in the subtlest form of 'being themselves' interests me."
This will be Tamy Ben-Tor's first solo exhibition. Born in 1975, she has screened her works and performed at various venues in the US and abroad including Salon 94, New York, PS1 Contemporary Art Center, New York and The ICA, London.
