Tom McGrath 2007/2008
November 29, 2007- January 5, 2008
Reception: November 29, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
530 W 24th St
Zach Feuer Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new
paintings by
Tom McGrath opening November 29 and on view
through January 5, 2008.
In his work,
Tom McGrath substantially rethinks the genre of
landscape painting. He does not idealize the pastoral
landscape, which is misaligned with present attitudes toward
land use, but takes a far more objective look. He accepts
changes, setting the stage of the modern landscape so that its
cracks and fissures are not only represented but are among its
key distinguishing features. In his new work, McGrath
continues his exploration of the landscape but shifts from
direct encounters to staged aerial views, day to night, natural
light to artificial illumination, and East Coast suburbia to
Southern California urban views.
- Robert Hobbs
A fully illustrated catalogue, with an essay by art historian
Robert Hobbs and a text by Kevin Zucker, will accompany the
exhibition.
