Someday Never Comes & Brian Montuori: Intruder
January 17, 2007- February 17, 2007
Reception: January 17, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
531 W 25th St
Artist and curator Eddie Martinez presents Someday Never Comes, an exhibition of expressive, figurative works by five young, contemporary artists. Mixing the personal with art historical references, the unhinged, delirious paintings share a raw earnestness. Someday Never Comes features
Katherine Bernhardt,
Andrew Guenther,
José Lerma,
Liz Markus, and
Matias Sanchez.
In the side gallery, Martinez introduces painter Brian Montuori with a project entitled Intruder. A mysterious narrative spans a series of coarse, Antarctic landscapes. Machines of science and exploration take on predatory qualities, while the rugged environs may be the ultimate eradicator.
Bernhardt’s paintings have been exhibited widely, including at Canada and Team in New York, Galleri Christina Wilson, Copenhagen, and Galleria Comercial, San Juan. Guenther’s work has been seen at galleries including Perry Rubenstein, New York, The Happy Lion, Los Angeles, as well as in the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition The Triumph of Painting, Part III.
José Lerma is represented by Andrea Rosen Gallery and has recently participated in shows at the Deste Foundation, Athens and Anna Helwing, Los Angeles, among others. Liz Markus's exhibitions include a White Room at White Columns and New York's Finest at Canada in New York.
Matias Sanchez exhibits internationally at Galería Begoña Malone, Madrid, Christopher Cutts, Toronto, and others.
Eddie Martinez has curated several gallery exhibitions, including Don't Abandon the Ship, at Boston's Allston Skirt Gallery, winner of the 2006 Best Gallery Group Show by AICA/New England (International Assocation of Art Critics). Martinez's own work is shown internationally and was recently reviewed in Art in America and ArtReview, among others.
