Allison Artist was born January 19, 1981 on the island of Trinidad. Her dedication for art began with strong encouragement and support from her mother at an early age.
Allison Artis expresses diverse feelings on human identity and society through abstract thought. She works with numerous mediums and artistic styles. From collage to abstract paintings, Aritis believes colors and spiritual energy help to create a stimulation of subliminal emotion and reactions of sensuality. Artis creates a series of paintings that evoke communication through every day actions and occurrences. She uses permanent marker to create gesture drawings that are continuous, direct and honest on the canvas. The drawings are accumulative without subtraction. She permanently captures her pure and immediate response to the subject. Using the pallet knife and definitive brush strokes onto the canvas, Artis presents clean, flat, yet heavily worked oil surfaces of a three dimensional feel and depth to each piece. The work conveys to the viewer a sense of space fluid with the subject matter, which deals with solitude, self-empowerment, and a rescue of the spiritual ego. Allison Artis gathered inspiration from artists such as Basquiat, DeKooning, Bearden, and Kandinsky, when creating her recent collection entitled Narratives. Artis recently participated in a Bk College group show at The Brooklyn Museum of Art in honor of Jean Michel Basquiat in 2005 and The She’s Gotta Have exhibition in Albany NY. She was noted for her unique response and poetic style as an artist. She is presently showing at the Rhonda Schaller Studio, located in Chelsea NY. Allison Artis presently lives and works in Brooklyn NY. | |
